Amber And Johnny Finalise Divorce
AMBER HEARD and Johnny Depp finalised their divorce this weekend, reports the BBC, bringing an end to months of disagreement over the terms of the settlement.
The couple first announced their separation and intention to divorce in May last year, citing irreconcilable differences for the split. This was soon followed by allegations of physical abuse by Heard, which saw the actress granted a temporary restraining order against thePirates of the Caribbean actor. Depp always vehemently denied the claims, and following the settlement of the divorce in August, Heard withdrew the request allegedly as a part of the agreed settlement.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” Heard and Depp said in a joint statement at the time. “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm.” Since then however, there has been highly publicised back and forth between the pair’s lawyers regarding the $7 million amount awarded to Heard in the settlement – which she announced she would be donating to charity – and whether or not Depp would give the amount to Heard, or make the donation directly himself. It has now been decided that Depp will pay the amount to his now ex-wife for her to make the donation.
The finalised papers also state that Heard will keep their dogs Pistol and Boo, and a horse called Arrow, and will drop the request for a continued restraining order against Depp. Depp, meanwhile, will keep the couple’s properties in LA, Paris, and his private island in the Bahamas, as well as the couple’s collection of over 40 vehicles. Both actors will be prohibited from speaking about their relationship in the public arena, and neither will receive spousal support. Depp’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, said on Friday that they were “all pleased to put this unpleasant chapter in Mr Depp and his family’s lives behind them”, while Heard’s lawyer concluded that it was a “great day” for his client and “All Amber wanted was to be divorced and now she is.”
