Calvin Klein Presenting Ready To Wear Collection At New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017
This morning, for his stellar Calvin Klein debut, Raf Simons submerged his guests – including Gwyneth Paltrow and A$AP Rocky – in a Sterling Ruby artwork. The installation featured all manner of things: ‘mop’ heads of coloured string, brightly coloured carnival fringing, sheets of faded denim, aluminium buckets, and something that looked like a giant cheese grater were all suspended from the ceiling; Simons gave the artist free rein to imagine a work appropriate for Calvin Klein, Ruby imagined America.
“It reflects the environment,” said Simons. “All these different people with different styles and dress codes, it’s the future, the past… the city… the American West… It’s the coming together of different characters and different individuals, just like America itself.” A political message that’s all the more poignant given the news yesterday that the Appeals Court ruled against reinstating Trump’s travel ban.
