We live in a warm climate and enjoy all the benefits that are associated with that but are we caring for our surroundings?
The national meteorological institute has said Spain has had 40 percent less rain than normal in the meteorological year which began October 1.
With recent press on the Drought Spain is facing, especially in Barcelona where Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega told a news conference.
"If we do nothing and it does not rain, five million residents of the Barcelona region will have no more water to drink in October" The current dam capacity in Barcelona is 18.25% up from 16.24% 2 weeks ago but still no where near enough to supply the province.
The statistics for the dam capacity is definitely encouraging especially after the rainy we have encountered in the past 2 weeks. In total the dams in Spain are capable of holding 54,305hm,, we are currently showing levels of 28,639 hm O Our current dam capacity is 52.75%, last week, 15th April 2008 it was 50.11% and the previous week 8th April 2008 it was at 47.58 %
The worst affected province is Almeria with only 5.19% dam capacity, there has been no fluctuation in the past 2 weeks indicating equal rainfall to water usage
Valladolid is at 100% dam capacity
The best increase in the past 2 weeks was in Caceras, previously at 58.80% then have approximately nearly 10% to 68.51%
Again we must ask about methods of water conservation, I recently heard of a lady that brings a bucket in the shower to catch the cold water until the water runs hot, this is then used for flushing toilets.
