Invest in American Eagle Gold Coins

Gold Coins are both valuable and beautiful investments. As the old saying goes, "You just can not get enough of them". Gold was discovered thousands of years ago and is treasured for its luster, beauty and value

The United States government has minted Gold Coins since 1986. On the front of each coin is a portrait of Miss Liberty and on the back is an eagle flying above its nest. From a historical perspective the American Bald Eagle was designated as the national symbol of the country in 1782 by the Continental Congress. The United States Constitution was not adopted until 1789. Benjamin Franklin suggested that the turkey be designated as the national symbol, but luckily the eagle won out. It's hard to imagine having American Turkey Gold Coins.

The coins are mined in one ounce, one- half ounce, one-quarter ounce and one-tenth ounce denominations. They are made of 22 parts gold (22 karat) and two parts silver and copper.

There are two types of Gold Coins with American Eagles. They are the Gold Bullion and the Gold Proof types. The Gold Bullion Coin is easy to buy and easily converted to cash. They can be purchased from authorized dealers and investors who can find the daily value of gold in most newspapers and on television business channels. Many investors include the bullion coins as part of their retirement accounts as a hedge against inflation.

The proof version Coins that are gold with an American Eagle is designed for collectors. Using a specialized minting process, the United States Mint then places the coin in a plastic capsule mounted in a velvet case and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The proof version can be purchased directly from the Mint at a fixed price.

In uncertain economies with entire countries being "bailed out" and national deficits threatening national bankruptcies, Gold Coins with an American Eagle certainly offer great hedges against these calamities. The collector is guaranteed authenticity of the proof coin. However, there is great risk for the investor in the authenticity of the bullion version if actual coins are being purchased instead of gold futures.

Private safe deposit boxes and vaults are probably the best ways to protect authentic Gold Coins with eagles. Some dealers also offer safekeeping for the coins. You should carefully determine how to protect your coins. I'm so old I can remember when gold was selling for $ 300 an ounce. It's well over $ 1,200 an ounce now. The risks involved with investing in these gold coins seem minimal in comparison to the profit margin.

American Eagle Gold Coins certainly appear to be an effective way of protecting investments and wealth in the face of economic uncertainties. They have become the most popular gold coin in the world.
