Why Shouldn’t You Use Volleyball Shoes on Concrete?

Volleyball Shoes have a specific set of characteristics which ensure that they work at the best possible level on a volleyball court. What this means though is that they are not that good off the court. The main thing that makes using Volleyball Shoes off the court a bad idea is the sole of the shoe. If you take a careful look at it, you will notice that the sole is made of very, very soft rubber. This is what helps the shoe achieve such good grip on smooth surfaces. If you imagine running sand paper up and down the sole, you can begin to understand what concrete and other rough surfaces do to your shoes!

A lot of people use them for quickly going outside to get a drink or short trips, but for anything more than that you want to put on another set of shoes. These shoes are so easy to damage, and if you are moving quickly on concrete, bitumen or other rough surfaces you will wear the sole out very quickly. When you are paying over a hundred dollars a pair for some of these, you want to make sure that they last!

Be especially careful not to play other sports on rough surfaces with them, as you put a lot of stress on the soles. Once the soles have worn out the shoes will have poor shock absorption ability, and they wont grip on the court as well. The whole reason behind buying Volleyball shoes is for good support, grip and shock absorption, so effectively you are just throwing money out the window if you use them on concrete.
